Gastric by-pass

Gastric bypass is surgery that helps you lose weight by changing how your stomach and small intestine handle the food you eat.

In this procedure, the stomach is divided into a small upper pouch and a much larger lower “remnant” pouch and then the small intestine is rearranged to connect to both.

Gastric by-pass achieves good percentage of weight reduction through reduced food intake and also inability of the intestines to absorb nutrients. It is also associated with many nutrient deficiencies.

Bilo – Pancreatic Diversion (BPD) – Duodenal Switch

The surgery involves exclusion of a large portion of the intestines. This results in significant weight loss but also considerable nutrient deficiencies. It is rarely indicated.

Gastric band

Gastric band is rarely done these days.
